SPIN magazine asked us for our predictions for the New York Giants in the upcoming football season. We answered, sent a silly photo, and now here we are alongside Joey Santiago, Butch Vig, DMC of Run-DMC, and a shit-ton of other heavy hitters! Touchdown!

Matt Hunter & The Dusty Fates will perform this Sunday, September 1, 5 pm, at The Avalon Lounge in Catskill, NY, as part of DromFest ’24, a star-studded two-day indie-rock festival presented by Dromedary Records, the label that released our debut LP, Reindeer Soul, earlier this year.

For the bands performing inside the Avalon Lounge, the entire weekend’s sets will be streaming on WGXC-FM, the local noncommercial radio station. If you can’t make the show, tune in at Wavefarm.org.

We couldn’t be more excited to be part of this awesome event!

Scummy Watertower Artist Essay: "How I Stopped Worrying and Learned to Love Punk Rock" by Matt Hunter

An old Polaroid photo of Matt Hunter wearing gag nose glasses and throwing the horns with both hands.

Scummy Watertower today published Matt’s essay on growing up and discovering punk in Phoenix, Arizona, in the 1980s.

Sample quote:

Many, or at least too many, of my fellow Phoenicians were also more than a little nuts – often viciously so. (Blame the heat. We did.) And music could make already volatile people even crazier. This characteristic was on full display when national performers came through town. Local audiences booed Prince off the stage (opening for the Rolling Stones), broke a bottle over (then named) John Cougar’s head on stage, and chased the Beastie Boys off when opening for Madonna (!).

Glide Mag premieres "Reindeer Soul" video on day before album release!

It’s Reindeer Soul Release Eve! Huge thanks to Glide Magazine for today’s premiere of the video for the title track! Filmed by Chris “smitty” Smith and featuring DW Hunter a/k/a D.W. Box, it’s an “Expansive & Atmospheric Stunner”! Watch & listen now!

‘“Reindeer Soul” features a raw vocal performance over the emotional twang of The Dusty Fates for an expansive, moving ballad reminiscent of Sparklehorse and Jason Molina. The psychedelic video shows Hunter navigating life with an odd sense of a long-forgotten emotion looming behind his every turn.’ — Glide Mag
